x - Tied For 1st Place For The Regular Season Standings
The one-game playoff game counts in the final standings, thus Green Bay finished in 2nd place.
** Special Note ** ~ In the early days of the NFL, there were no playoff games
or championship games of the type. Also, ties do not count in standings, the
league champion is determined by best percentage record (%). Both Portsmouth
and Chicago finished with 6-1 records, they had a better % record than the Green
Bay Packers, even though the Packers had 10 wins. Thus, the NFL decided to hold
the first unofficial playoff game to determine the NFL champion. Even more strangely,
the weather was extremely cold, so league officials decided to play the game inside
the Chicago Stadium, home to the Blackhawks. The field was just 80 yards in length
due to restrictions of the arena. In 1933, the NFL adopted a 2-division system
with the two winners playing for the NFL Championship.
The Boston Braves join the NFL for the 1932 season.
