The 2009 football season for the Philadelphia Eagles was a season of ups and downs, culminating
in two straight disasterous losses to the Dallas Cowboys to end the year on a real sour note.
The result finally called for the end of the Donovan McNabb era and on Easter morning, the Chicago
native QB got his wish as the Birds traded him to the Washington Redskins. Thus began the Kevin
Kolb era. WAIT ONE MINUTE!!! A major announcement on September 21 by Andy Reid and now officially
begins the Michael Vick era. For how long, nobody knows? Philadelphia continued their youth movement
with the additions of Mike Bell, Ernie Sims and Darryl Tapp along with draft picks Brandon Graham
and Nate Allen. The Eagles also severed ties with Brian Westbrook and Sheldon Brown. The offense now
features LeSean McCoy at running back, Brent Celek at tight end and the two super speedsters, Jeremy
Maclin and DeSean Jackson at wideout. The defense was overhauled, especially at linebacker and the
safety positions. Rookies Graham and Allen will see plenty of action and will need to contribute right
away for the Eagles defense to regain it's form after the death of Jim Johnson last year. The addition
of Ernie Sims and the welcome return of Stewart Bradley should solidify the linebacker corps. As for
preditions, I now expect the Birds to compete for the wildcard spot especially with Michael Vick leading
the kiddie corps and performing better than anyone ever expected of him. NFC Championship Game, maybe?
Let's watch the season unfold to see what happens in 2010...
